FASHION & INNOVATION: DPP OPPORTUNITIES WITH MIOO TECH AND MION

03/06/2025

On Tuesday, May 13th, in the evocative setting of MIOO Tech showroom in Milan, Mion S.p.A. hosted the panel discussion titled Data-Driven Future: Benefits and Opportunities for the Fashion Industry.

Thanks to intervention of the speakers such as the two top managers in Fashion & Footwear Luca Donnini and  Giorgio Presca, together with Etan Genini ( MIOO Tech CEO) and Niccolò Mion (Mion S.p.A. CEO) — the conversation offered valuable insights and real-world perspectives on a key question: what challenges and opportunities will the Digital Product Passport bring to the future of fashion?

Anticipating upcoming regulatory requirements — the Digital Product Passport is expected to be enforced starting from 2027 — and transforming them into brand value, represents the necessary paradigm shift to interpret the EU’s emerging mandates from an entrepreneurial perspective.

Throughout the evening, the synergy between Mion S.p.A.’s manufacturing and commercial expertise and MIOO Tech’s technology-driven approach showcased how labels and hangtags can evolve into smart digital touchpoints that support customer engagement by enabling:

  • Product Authenticity (digital DNA)
  • Traceability
  • Post-sale benefits
  • Data collection and valorization
  • Market resell

Giorgio Presca emphasized how, thanks to the integration of Mion’s physical products with MIOO’s technology, "the product once again becomes the primary vehicle for consumer engagement," confirming that the fusion of physical labeling and digital tools is now the most effective way to engage directly with a brand’s community. The integration between physical labels and digital technologies is now the key for a direct engagement with your  brand’s community.

Luca Donnini, on the other hand, shared the journey that led him to choose MIOO solution for a major British luxury brand, starting from a very concrete need: “How can we effectively communicate product certification for sustainability, origin, and social compliance?”
And when addressing the growing markets of vintage and second-hand fashion, he added: “How can we distinguish a genuine garment from a counterfeit one?”

The answer lies in a correlation system between the product and the final user—made possible by MIOO’s digital authentication—recognized as a strategic asset for reselling.

The opportunities offered by MIOO platform also involve the topic of circular economy. The 4Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover—find in the Swiss technology an ideal ecosystem to enable transparent, interactive, and sustainable communication between brands and final consumers.

The full video of Milan event is available at the end of the article, offering in-depth insights into both MIOO Tech’s capabilities and Mion S.p.A.’s manufacturing know-how.

A warm thank you goes to all the attendees from sales, marketing, operations, IT, and governance, whose questions enriched and energized the conversation.
